My pictures are usually rather restrained—I prefer muted tones , subtle colors, and a calm visual language. Bright, garish compositions aren't usually my style . But while editing this image, something unexpected happened: I suddenly felt the need to bring out the colors more. It was as if the image itself was demanding to become brighter, more intense—completely contrary to my usual approach.
The vibrant red, in particular, evoked associations in me—it immediately reminded me of Frida Kahlo . Her expressive, colorful floral art , her distinctive visual language, her strength and vulnerability at the same time. The dark background also lends the image something mysterious, almost mystical —like a glimpse into another world, into a deeper level of emotions.
Thus, this painting became a silent homage to Frida Kahlo for me – a woman who impressed not only with her art , but also with her personality, her story, and her uncompromising attitude. Her works are not simply paintings; they are expressions of inner struggles, passion, and an unbridled zest for life. This painting is a small nod to her greatness – more colorful than usual, more intense than usual, and perhaps precisely for that reason, so special to me.
"If our eyes saw souls instead of bodies, how different would our idea of beauty be "
